- Love Cae <3
When I first started my business, I believed passion was all I needed and that it would always be enough. But, I didn't realize how much work, clarity, boundaries, and confidence would matter in the end of it all. I didn't start my business knowing everything I hoped to have, and then I began learning things the hard way. So, there are things no one tells you when you decide to start a business, and especially a creative one like photography.
Passion isn't the same as preparation. I based everything at the start on loving what I do, creating, and being passionate. But that doesn't cancel out the need to "know" how to run a business. It doesn't make the scheduling, pricing, and communicating with clients go away. The main idea from this is that while passion starts the love and idea for a business, preparation sustains it in the end.
Other things I also wish I'd known were how some people won't take you seriously, that boundaries are necessary, mistakes are part of the process, and the progress of confidence. All of these points have been things I wish I had known about before starting, thinking that I could have helped myself better. But, I wouldn't change this learning experience for anything, through the ups and downs, and starting a business taught me more than just how to manage these things. But it taught me that resilience is key, because while I didn't know everything I wished I had, I learned it at some point, and that shows the determination to show up anyway. And that shows how some lessons are only learned by doing.
